Andrea Anderson joined the Skillman as the Director of Evaluation, Learning, and Impact in 2018. In this role, Andrea works collaboratively with Foundation staff to design and implement a coordinated and comprehensive evaluation, performance monitoring, learning and communications plan that advances the Foundation’s Opportunity Agenda for Detroit Children. Andrea facilitates learning and thinking within the Foundation and among community partners, and encourages a culture of candor, accountability and innovation.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Andrea spent 25 years conducting program evaluation, policy analysis, and applied research for nongovernmental organizations, foundations, and civic leadership groups. She has developed curricula and training materials to build the capacity of civic and non-profit leaders to apply a structural racism lens to work designed to reduce racial disparities in health, education, employment and asset development.

Andrea has a bachelor’s degree in finance, a master’s in family and community planning from the University of Maryland at College Park, and a doctorate in evaluation and planning from Cornell University. Andrea served as the president of North Star Planning and Evaluation Consultants and held positions at Abt Associates, The Aspen Institute Roundtable on Community Change, and The Pratt Center for Community Development.

A native of Baltimore, Andrea is an avid football fan. During the off-season, she loves spends her time at farmers markets, art exhibits, bookstores, or in pursuit of the perfect beach sunset photo.
