One size doesn’t fit all: Real reflections on varied ECB approaches

Despite our most careful planning, our evaluation capacity building (ECB) efforts seldom play out as we expect. This session will candidly discuss several concrete examples of ECB work from two consulting firms, demonstrating a variety of approaches to third-party ECB work, including optional technical assistance attached to a larger evaluation, specialized training and one-on-one coaching, and larger cohort-model efforts. We will analyze challenges and opportunities for each scenario, consider contextual factors that contribute to ECB success, and highlight lessons learned drawing on our own experiences and a recent review of current literature on ECB.

What’s innovativeWe’re working in the space of innovation, reflecting on the lessons from prior practice and imagining future ECB practice.
