We are outraged at the brutal killings of Alex Pretti, Renee Good, Silverio Villegas González, and Keith Porter Jr. by federal agents for exercising their First Amendment right to protest mass deportation. And people keep dying in ICE custody.
We have a team member in Minneapolis actively working to support her community, and we know firsthand the fear and trauma that federal enforcement actions are inflicting on immigrant families, and the risks protesters are taking to speak out against it.
In solidarity with Minnesota, protesters, and the communities currently being targeted by ICE, our office will be closed Friday, January 30 for the National Shutdown. Learn more at nationalshutdown.org.
When peaceful protesters are killed for exercising their constitutional rights, when families are torn apart in their own neighborhoods, when fear replaces safety in our communities—business as usual is not an option. A general strike is a collective assertion of our power to demand change and our refusal to participate in systems that enable violence against our neighbors.
We will continue to fight today and every day for the safety of our communities.
The immediate needs in the Twin Cities are urgent. Our Minneapolis-based team member has curated these concrete ways you can help:
If you are in Minnesota: Connect with a neighborhood mutual aid or rapid response group. Defend 612 has been a great resource for getting folks involved.
Help families pay rent: Many people have been unable to go to work due to fear of ICE. Consider supporting one of these GoFundMe campaigns:
